Description

The Syngonium 'Confetti' (Syngonium podophyllum 'Confetti'), nicknamed 'Goosefoot', is a houseplant with particularly decorative foliage, featuring green hues speckled with pink accents, reminiscent of festive confetti. This variety will bring freshness and colour to your interior, whether in contemporary, bohemian, or tropical settings. To maintain the vibrancy of its colours, place this Syngonium in a bright spot without direct sunlight and ensure adequate ambient humidity. It is a relatively easy variety to grow.

Belonging to the Araceae family, the Syngonium 'Confetti' is a horticultural cultivar derived from the species Syngonium podophyllum. The genus Syngonium includes around 36 species native to the humid tropical forests of Central and South America. In their natural habitat, these plants grow up trees, benefiting from the high humidity and filtered light beneath the canopy. In indoor cultivation, they appreciate indirect light, high ambient humidity, and a well-draining substrate to best replicate their natural conditions. This plant has both a bushy and upright habit and exhibits rapid growth. Compact, it typically reaches between 30 and 60 cm in height and spread at maturity. Its flexible stems can be trained on a support or left to grow freely. The arrow-shaped leaves measure between 7 and 13 cm in length. They have a smooth texture and a vibrant green colour, speckled with pale pink spots. This cultivar does not flower.

The Syngonium 'Confetti' is a versatile plant that fits into various interior decoration styles. In a bohemian setting, its colourful leaves add a touch of cheerfulness and lightness. In a contemporary or minimalist interior, it introduces a subtle note of colour without overwhelming the space. For a jungle effect, pair it with plants like the Philodendron 'Brasil' and the Pothos 'Marble Queen', which share similar light and humidity requirements.

Maintenance and care

Water when the substrate is dry on the surface. In winter, reduce the watering frequency. Mist the foliage regularly to maintain high ambient humidity.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot in spring every 1 to 2 years, or when the roots start to outgrow the pot.
Use a well-draining potting mix enriched with organic matter, ideally mixed with clay pebbles or perlite to promote aeration and prevent waterlogging.
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser for houseplants, applied every 2 to 3 weeks during the growth period (spring and summer). Reduce the frequency in autumn and winter.

Houseplant care

Undemanding, this plant simply requires removing the yellowed leaves and wiping dusty leaves with a damp cloth to maintain their shine.
Prune the stems regularly to encourage branching and maintain a compact or climbing shape according to your preference.

Disease and pest advice

In case of a mealybug attack, use a cotton pad soaked in alcohol to remove them, then spray a soapy water solution to prevent further infestation.
