Description

Tulipa 'Innuendo' is a beautiful bulbous plant. It bears single flowers with elongated cups, whose pearly-white petals are widely edged with bright pink that can extend to a deeper magenta as the flower ages. The intense green colour of its leaves leans towards blue and is remarkably shiny.

Tulipa 'Innuendo' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the Triumph group, whose main characteristic is to have narrow cup-shaped flowers, carried by medium-sized stems that are very strong and particularly resistant to bad weather. Derived from the cross-breeding between early simple tulips and late simple tulips, Triumph tulips bloom in April-May. They are ideal for flower beds, in exposed locations, and show a real elegance combined with excellent vase life.

Tulipa 'Innuendo' works well at the edge of large flower beds. It creates beautiful combinations with white tulips such as T. 'Ibernia' and T. 'White Dream', or T. 'Purple Flag' and T. 'Holland Beauty' with a deeper shade of mauve. This also maximises the flowering period. Mix it with daffodils, jonquils, hyacinths, Corsican hellebores, and euphorbias, as well as tall perennials for colourful scenes. It can be planted in rockeries, flower borders, pots, and containers. This tulip also brings a beautiful brightness to balconies and patio. It is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. Only use a little water in a vase. If your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stalks and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly, so we recommend planting heuchera, tiarella, brunnera, bleeding heart, or Euphorbia cyparissia at the forefront of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips, and will elegantly conceal the tulip's yellowed leaves
