Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Negrita' is sought after for its dark, almost black colour that is very trendy. This majestic tulip with its narrow corolla offers petals that are dark violet-blue, which pair beautifully with dark roses and oranges. The flowers stand atop thick and sturdy stems that are 45 cm (18in) tall, above the widely lanceolate green and deciduous leaves. It blooms in the heart of spring starting from April.

The 'Négrita' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the Triumph group, whose main characteristic is to have flowers with a narrow cup shape. They are the result of a cross-breeding between early single tulips and Darwin tulips. With their range of colours and strong and resistant flowers, they can be used both in flowerbeds and to enhance your bouquets. The fame of Triumph tulips is well established. They are already among the most planted varieties.

Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly. We recommend planting perennial plants with decorative foliage in the foreground, as they will enhance the colours of your tulips and later elegantly hide the yellowed leaves. Consider heucheras and tiarellas, for example. For floral art enthusiasts, it is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they are beautiful and last a long time in a vase.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs of the 'Negrita' Triumph tulip in the autumn, from October to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), spacing them 10 cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The Triumph tulip will grow well in moist to dry soil. Plant it in a sunny or semi-shaded location. Once the flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant. Allow the leaves to completely dry before cutting them.
