Description
Prunus 'Accolade', derived from a hybrid between Prunus sargentti and P. subhirtella, is a hardy bush, with medium growth.
This flowering cherry tree blooms from March to April. Its numerous red buds open to reveal beautiful semi-double, bright pink flowers. The flowers, grouped in 3-4, measure 4 cm (1.6 in) in diameter.
After flowering, Prunus 'Accolade' is adorned with deciduous elliptical leaves that are 7 cm to 12 cm (2.8 in to 4.7 in) long. The leaves are medium green in summer and then become red-orange in autumn.
This large bush with spectacular flowering has an upright habit when young, which widens over time to form a canopy as tall as it is wide. Plant it alone or at the back of a border, alongside spring-flowering bulbs: Tulips, Muscari, or Daffodils.

Prunus 'Accolade' thrives in full sun or partial shade in any soil that is sufficiently rich, moist, and well-drained. During planting, mix your soil with compost at a ratio of 50%. Dig a large planting hole. Be mindful of late frosts that could damage early flowering. Therefore, it is preferable to place it in a slightly sheltered location.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
