Description
Hydrangea paniculata Living Touch of Pink® is a compact paniculate hydrangea that brings a soft, luminous touch to borders and containers. Its creamy white panicles blush with pastel pink in late summer. Its compact size, early and long-lasting flowering, and ease of cultivation make this variety an ideal plant for small spaces. This very hardy shrub only dislikes dry, poorly drained, or very poor soils.
Living Touch of Pink® is a compact paniculate hydrangea from the Living Creations® series, selected by Alex Schoemaker in the Netherlands and introduced in 2021. In recognition of its exceptional qualities, it was awarded a gold medal at the KVBC* competition the same year, praised for the delicacy of its flowering, the holding of its inflorescences, and its balanced habit.
At maturity, this shrub reaches approximately 90 cm in height and 1.10 m in width; its habit is rounded, dense, and well-branched. Depending on growing conditions, its size may be smaller, around 60 to 75 cm. Its dark green, finely toothed foliage turns yellow before falling in autumn. Flowering begins early, in June or July, and continues until September. It remains decorative for nearly 100 days. The conical panicles, of medium size (about 15 to 20 cm), open pure white, then gradually take on a more creamy shade. Pastel pink only appears in late summer.
Living Touch of Pink® is hardy to –30 °C. It blooms on new wood, making it little affected by late frosts.
Hydrangea paniculata Living Touch of Pink® can be used in groups, in a small flowering hedge, or in a container on the patio. Its pastel flowering is perfect for romantic settings or a cottage garden. Cut its flowers to make generous fresh or dried cut flower arrangements. You can pair it with light perennials like Astrantia major ‘Roma’, Campanula lactiflora ‘Loddon Anna’, or foxgloves in soft colours. In the background, consider a small Deutzia gracilis ‘Nikko’ or a Caryopteris × clandonensis ‘Pink Perfection’. At the edge, play with the decorative foliage of Heuchera ‘Blondie in Lime’ or Alchemilla mollis, which will highlight the delicacy of its flowering.

Planting and care
Hydrangea paniculata 'Living Touch of Pink' is undemanding regarding soil type, as long as it is not too heavy, not too chalky and not too dry in summer. It requires a sunny, not scorching, or partially shaded position. Plant it in deeply cultivated soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dried blood) will help your plant establish and feed it without risk of scorching. If your soil tends to be dry, mix compost and potting soil into the earth when backfilling the planting hole and create a watering basin on the surface. Mulch in summer to save on watering. Growth in spring is quite late.
Hydrangea paniculata are more resilient to occasional lack of water and establish easily even in non-acid soil (nevertheless, avoid strongly chalky soils).

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.

- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
