Description

Strobilanthes nutans is a little-known exotic perennial, very hardy and easy to grow in cold coastal climates. A perennial whose flexible, hairy branches spread over the ground and then stand upright and bear attractive, soft green leaves. The large, pure white, tubular flowers bloom in summer and are arranged in short, tight spikes. Strobilanthes nutans is easy to grow in shade or partial shade in any moist, acidic soil. Plant it under large bushes or at the edge of a mixed exotic flowerbed with rodgersias, perennial geraniums, roscoeas or hostas. This little-known genus was originally from the Himalayas and has some remarkable and useful perennial and hardy species for shade.
