Description

Geranium ibericum, known as the Iberian cranesbill, is a magnificent species with large intense blue flowers veined with purple.

Remarkable in late spring beds, this perennial geranium produces a multitude of intense blue-mauve flowers striated with purple. The flowers bloom from June to July. The flowers are of a good size, measuring 3cm (1in) in diameter.

The rounded, dark green and cut foliage takes on pretty orange colours in the autumn. It forms a remarkable hemispherical clump, slowly spreading with the help of its short underground stolons, without ever becoming invasive.

As a carefree perennial plant, it will thrive in any good garden soil, in shade or in the sun, and it harmonises perfectly with Geranium renardii.

Planting and care

Work the soil to a depth of 20 cubic cm, crumble the soil well, and place dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, having removed it from its pot, and cover the top of the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks in dry weather to facilitate root establishment.
