Description

The 'Silver Queen' Ludoviciana Wormwood or Artemisia is a semi-shrubby perennial that has the particularity of forming a magnificent silvery-grey tuft that spreads quite quickly.

Its decorative foliage gives it all its charm. It is composed of fine, long leaves of silvery-grey colour. The foliage is deciduous.

From June to July, long panicles with numerous woolly white flowers appear. The large flowers measure 20 cm (8in) long. The 'Silver Queen' Wormwood is a very hardy and vigorous plant. Originally from California, it can reach 60 cm (24in) in height at maturity.

The 'Silver Queen' is ideal in a dry garden in a rockery or a sunny bed, or by the seaside. You can also grow it in a border, hedge, or even in a container. Be careful that it does not become too invasive. You can plant the 'Silver Queen' ludoviciana artemisia with plants like Ceratostigma, Papaver orientale, Scabiosa caucasica, as well as with mallow. It looks beautiful in a white garden.

Planting and care

The Silver Queen Mugwort plant prefers a sunny spot and well-drained soil that is not too heavy. It's important to note that if the soil is heavy, it may cause the plant to have a shorter lifespan. If the plant doesn't get enough sun, it may lean towards it. Once the plant is well-established, it's able to withstand drought conditions. You can prune the 'Silver Queen' Artemisia in the spring or autumn to give it a more compact appearance, and cutting the flower stalks after flowering promotes foliage growth. Keep an eye out for aphid attacks.
