Description

Little known yet of great interest because the lifespan of this excellent perennial, as well as its ability to adapt to cool and clayey soils, is much better than that of the Anchusa azurea to which it resembles.

Hardy perennial plant. From the robust stump, large rootstocks emerge, producing upright stems carrying lanceolate and rough leaves. The flowers gathered at the top of the stems are of an intense gentian blue colour.

Planting and care

We cultivate this excellent plant in the scree garden, in the company of Penstemon cobæa and Knautia macedonica. It adapts well to moist soils as long as they are aerated with gravel. It has been living in the garden for 20 years and the stump shows no signs of weakness; it is there, well established, not invading its neighbours, but also not allowing its roots to be colonized. It only asks to be known!
