Description
The Switch Grass or Panicum virgatum is an ornamental grass native to the United States. Adapted to extreme conditions, panicum tolerates drought and cold, it is versatile and adapts to many situations in the garden. Non-suckering, this grass with an upright habit is highly appreciated in small gardens.
The panicum virgatum 'Rotstrahlbusch' is an ornamental grass with superb olive green foliage, gradually turning red and then purple at the end of the season. Its fine purple flower spikes blend perfectly with the autumn foliage.
This grass adapts to any well-draining soil, it is particularly well suited to coastal areas as it tolerates sea spray.
