Erysimum Winter Light Plug Plant - Perennial Wallflower

Erysimum 'Winter Light', has  all the benefits of spring light. This false wallflower forms a perennial subshrub with early flowering in two shades of soft yellow, between lemon and primrose, vibrant colours that we really need after winter... pleasantly emphasized by a delicate fragrance.

Cousin of the annual wallflowers, the perennial 'Winter Light' wallflower is a well-branched shrub, a little taller than wide at about 40cm (15.7in), with narrow and evergreen dark green foliage. It is ideal in pots, grown as a biennial, for the spring decoration of your containers and flower boxes, but will also thrive in the garden in a well-drained soil and in the sun, where it will live between 3 and 5 years because it is a hardy perennial, but unfortunately with a short lifespan. Its flowering takes place from March to June, or even early July when summer is late... The numerous buds give rise to large flowers, twice as wide as those of classic wallflowers, but with the same typical 4-petal shape of the Brassicaceae family. Gathered in beautiful spikes, they are of a vivid lemon yellow colour when opening gradually lightening as they bloom to take on a soft primrose yellow hue, creating a 2-tone effect that gives it relief, without detracting from its delicacy. A sweet wallflower fragrance spreads in the air in good weather, so much so that you will smell the Erysimum 'Winter Light' even before you see it...

Perfect in pots where you can easily meet its water and fertilizer requirements as it is actually a rather greedy plant... you can associate it as you wish with bulbs such as daffodils and jonquils, biennial flowers in white and yellow, or even blue, chosen from the range of pansies, primroses, and other violas. But don't hesitate to broaden your creative palette with other early perennials (arabis, candytuft, aubrieta, Moroccan daisies...) and especially perennials with decorative foliage such as Acorus 'Ogon' or Heuchera 'Chartreuse'... then you will be able to capture the essence of spring on a terrace, a balcony, and even a simple windowsill.
