Neck arrived in very good condition, very solid packaging, the flowers well protected by a down jacket of air bags are doing wonderfully. Tomorrow I will transplant them into buckets so that they gain strength before putting them in the ground where they can spread out. I am delighted with the products offered by Promise of Flowers.

Description

Viola 'Sorbet XP Pink Halo' is a small horned violet that offers an abundance of delightful small flowers, in a refined pastel colour, pink with a hint of mauve on a white background. The plants are floriferous, vigorous and branching and remain compact over time. With dark and evergreen foliage that forms a beautiful backdrop for their blooms, they allow for charming borders and opulent containers. This biennial is grown in humus-rich soil, in partial shade or dappled sunlight.

Belonging to the violaceae family, the horned violet grows wild in the Pyrenees and is a low perennial plant that has given rise to numerous hybrids. Often crossed with Viola tricolor (wild pansy), their most famous descendants are horticultural pansies. The variety 'Sorbet XP Pink Halo' is a spreading herbaceous plant that reaches a height of 10 to 15 cm (3.9 - 5.9 in) when in bloom, with dark green, ovate and crenate evergreen leaves that form a spreading tuft. It is covered in flowers from spring to autumn. Its nearly white flowers display a wide lilac pink halo, populated by black stripes radiating from the white and bright yellow centre. They resemble those of small pansies but with petals arranged differently: the two upper ones are erect, the other three inclined downwards. The plant spreads quite rapidly thanks to its rhizomes and also self-seeds very easily in the garden, not always faithfully.

Horned violets are intended for low flowerbeds and borders, as well as pots and balconies, where they will combine well with other spring and summer flowering plants (Forget-me-nots, Dwarf daffodils, Daisies, Primroses, Botanical tulips, summer and autumn asters, etc.). The flowers of horned violets are edible, so don't hesitate to decorate your plates with a few or even to add to salads for a touch of colour.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds

Planting and care

Horned violets thrive in a light, humus-rich soil, moist but well-drained as they are sensitive to excessive moisture in winter. In heavy soil, add some sand to improve drainage.

Plant horned violets in a sunny site but not in direct sunlight, or under light shade.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. Feed them with liquid fertilizer for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but not excessively. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
