Description

Pelargonium 'Torrento' is a fragrant geranium, typically grown as an annual.

This geranium bears small pink flowers veined with purple. They are perhaps less spectacular than those of classic perennial or annual hybrids, but are more authentic.

The medium green leaves are veined with a cut shape. They are extremely fragrant. With a simple touch, they release a delicate scent of ginger that is also slightly lemony. Plant them in a pot or in the ground, in a location where you can touch it. Try planting them along a pathway or in a pot on a patio. They perfume the air and repel mosquitoes.

After rainfall one day, we came across a bed of fragrant geraniums and spent a long time immersing ourselves in a symphony of delicate scents. It is one of our favourites, as you may have guessed.

These are supplied as green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in plug plant trays of 5 small plugs, with a diameter of 2.8cm (1in) and a height of 4cm (2in). Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors, once the risk of frost has definitely passed.

Planting and care

Plant your geraniums in open ground after the last frosts, in a sunny location. You can also plant them in pots placed in a sheltered position, which you can take out in May. Fragrant geraniums require well-drained soil, but not necessarily rich. Water moderately. In pots, regular watering is necessary in summer. You can keep your geraniums by bringing them indoors under a veranda or a cold greenhouse in winter. They can tolerate light frost, but they won't survive winter in the garden.
