Description
Pelargonium Rainbow Neon Purple is part of an exceptional series of ivy geraniums, which are particularly vigorous and floriferous. They bear large single flowers in vibrant colours. It is as easy as it is incredibly generous, and will work wonders in flower boxes, balcony planters, and hanging baskets. Its flexible stems are adorned with glossy leaves. They bear large bouquets of single flowers, in a bright fuchsia-pink. They bloom endlessly from spring until the first frosts, transforming the plant into a superb flowering cascade.
This geranium comes from Pelargonium x peltatum, also known as P. x hederaefolium or ivy geranium. It is a tender perennial plant from the Geraniaceae family. It is of horticultural origin. Its ancestors originate from South Africa. This hybrid is characterised by a rather trailing but bushy habit, and long branching stems. They are adorned with glossy leaves, divided into pointed lobes, which theoretically persist in winter if the plant is kept frost-free. Not very hardy (-4°C (24.8°F) approximately), it is often grown as an annual.
In just a few weeks, this vigorous variety forms a semi-trailing bushy clump measuring approximately 40cm (16in) in height and 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in) in diameter. Its circular leaves are leathery and palmate, with pointed lobes. Their glossy colour changes from light green when they emerge to a rich green with brown markings at the centre. The long and abundant flowering renews from April-May until the first frost, with a peak in July-August. The single flowers are round and fully open, gathered in large clusters.
Ivy geraniums are generous and undemanding plants, ideal for pots or flower beds in front of the house. They will decorate the garden for much of the year. They cascade from hanging baskets and balconies. Their flowers create round and colourful masses that blend together or highlight other plants, whether trailing like the black or purple-leaved morning glories (Ipomoea Illusion Midnight Lace, Ipomoea Sweet Heart 'Purple') or upright like zonal geraniums, petunias, gauras, or fuchsias.
Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors, once the risk of frost has definitely passed.

Planting and care
You can plant your ivy geraniums in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth.
Geraniums will flower from June to October. Plant them in a sunny or semi-shady location, sheltered from the wind. They need light, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Geraniums are sensitive to frost (minimum -4°C (24.8°F)). As pelargoniums are frost-sensitive, they need to be stored away in winter. In spring, repot them before bringing them back out.
These floriferous and fast-growing plants are hungry. We recommend feeding them with a liquid geranium fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season.
Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and extend the flowering period.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.

The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
