Description

The Angel Eyes Magenta Pelargonium is the latest addition to a new generation of geraniums that combine mosquito-repellent aromatic foliage with abundant and long-lasting flowering, in original colours. Its compact and bushy habit allows it to generously fill summer pots. Its countless small round flowers, richly coloured with magenta pink and edged with white, succeed each other relentlessly for months, enhanced by dense and beautifully crisped foliage in a vibrant green.

Belonging to the Geraniaceae family, the Angel Eyes Magenta Pelargonium is the result of extensive hybridisation, including with Pelargonium crispum, whose foliage contains an essential oil with a delightful lemon scent. It quickly forms a rounded, branched clump with an upright habit, reaching a height of 45 cm (18in) and a diameter of 40 cm (16in) in just a few weeks. Its stems bear numerous thick, rounded leaves with distinct lobes and veins, finely toothed edges, and a lemon-scented geranium fragrance when crushed. From May onwards, small velvety flowers, about 2cm (1in) in size, appear in clusters on the leaves. They consist of two larger upper petals and three smaller lower petals. The flowers are a vibrant pink with a contrasting white border. They cover the plant almost completely until autumn. If you wish to keep this geranium for the following year, you can protect it from frost by bringing it indoors to a conservatory (it does not tolerate temperatures below 0°C (32°F)).

'Angel Eyes Magenta' is a highly colourful and floriferous geranium that can easily fill a planter on its own, thanks to the density of its foliage, the abundance of its flowers, and the range of shades it offers. However, it also pairs beautifully with pink, mauve, or white Petunias and Surfinias. If you want to enhance the "butterfly" effect, place it alongside Lobelias or Nemesias with their airy blooms.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame etc.) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Angel Eyes Magenta' geraniums directly in place, in sun or partial shade, starting in April or May depending on the climate of your region. If you choose to plant them in the ground, wait until the last frost has passed, as they will not tolerate temperatures below 0°C.

You can also plant them in pots placed in a protected area, which you can take outside in May. Geraniums require nutrient-rich soil. In pots, regular watering is necessary in summer. Apply geranium fertiliser regularly. You can keep your geraniums by bringing them inside under a veranda or into a cold greenhouse during winter.
