Planting and care

Sow Cineraria in summer (from May to the end of August) in a seed tray. Use good quality compost. Sow your seeds by broadcasting them. Cover the seeds by sprinkling soil or vermiculite on top, lightly press down and water generously with a fine rain. Place your pots in a well-lit area, without direct sunlight, at a temperature of 20°C - 25°C.

The seeds will germinate in 14 to 21 days. Once the plants reach a height of 5 cm (2in), transplant them into pots (1 plant per pot). In autumn, bring your plants indoors and keep them at a temperature of 10°C until spring.

By the end of May or beginning of June, the temperature in the garden will be warm enough to plant your young plants. Choose a partially shaded location. Add a good handful of compost to each planting hole. Space your plants 25 to 30cm (10 to 12in) apart.

During flowering, remove faded flowers to prevent the plant from exhausting itself and promote the growth of new flowers. Regularly water the plant with a fertiliser for flowering plants.
