Thanks to the individuals (Anne Flora for order preparation and Rose from the shipping department), the bulbs I received appear to be healthy. Planted near the "Prince Claus" rose, I am now patiently waiting for them to take root... or not?" Analysis of the translated text: - The specific research area "flore" has been translated as "flora". - The names "Anne Flore" and "Rose" have been kept as they are, as they are proper names. - The phrase "Mis en terre" has been translated as "Planted". - The phrase "j'attends maintenant patiemment la reprise...(ou pas ?)" has been translated as "I am now patiently waiting for them to take root... or not?" to maintain the same tone and meaning as the original text. The translated text appears to be grammatically correct and conveys the intended meaning.

Description

Lilium Miss Feya is a sensational novelty. This variety is undoubtedly the most powerful and reddest of all hybrids between oriental and trumpet lilies. This giant bulb raises an impressive stem up to 2.50m (8ft) from the ground and produces up to 40 very wide flowers, 20 cm (8in) wide, in one season. Their colour is a deep red-purple, darkened with brown at the centre of the petals, speckled with brown-violet and finely bordered with white. Their fragrance is discreet but delicate. It is a spectacular, sturdy garden plant that flourishes over the years. It is also a fabulous and long-lasting cut flower, which will add an individual touch to homemade bouquets.

The genus Lilium belongs to the Liliaceae family. 'Miss Feya' is an enigmatic plant that closely resembles an older creation named 'LeVern Freimann' by the same American hybridiser. In fact, it is the same plant, which was quite rare when introduced in the USA due to its exorbitant price, and then multiplied on a large scale in the Netherlands under the name 'Miss Feya'. It is from the same vein as the famous hybrid 'Black Beauty', but it flowers later, is even more imposing, and its wider flowers have less curved petals. 'Miss Feya' is an exceptional hybrid, obtained by cross-breeding L. speciosum, which is very fragrant, with tall trumpet lilies, including L. henryi. It can easily reach a height of 1.50 to 2m (5 to 7ft), with a width of 50 cm (20in), when grown under optimal conditions. This hybrid sometimes takes a little time to establish itself, but it proves to be vigorous and quite hardy over the years. It will flower for several weeks in late July or early August on stems with 30 to 40 buds each, on a mature plant. The immense, dark red and brown flowers measure up to 20 cm (8in) in diameter and are softly scented in the evening. They are adorned with long, olive green stamens with white bases and brick-coloured anthers. The large, dark green leaves are 19 cm (8in) long and 6 cm (2in) wide and the stems are thick and sturdy, eliminating the need for staking. This lily quickly produces many bulbs.

This lily will thrive in humus-rich soil and does not like excessively chalky and poorly drained soils. You can grow Lilium 'Miss Feya' with white lilies (Lilium regale Album, Lilium speciosum Album), or grasses and perennial plants as it enjoys having its feet in the shade, and the other plants will help prevent the stems from bending in the wind. The lily is ideal on the edge of a grove, in the company of low shrubs (small rhododendrons, azaleas, Rosa rugosa, Gardenia Kleim's Hardy), and of course as a cut flower.

Planting and care

Lilium 'Miss Feya' thrives in humus-rich soil and does not like excessively chalky and poorly drained soil. It is best to plant the bulbs in October or in the spring, 15 cm (6in) deep in a mixture of soil and leaf compost. If planted in a too-shady location, it will tend to elongate. To maintain strong stems, choose an open area with a sunny but not scorching exposure. Surround the bulbs with a sand layer to prevent rot and attacks from slugs, while allowing them to grow more easily. Mark the planting location, as vegetation only starts in March-April. Protect young shoots from frost in extreme cold. If red lily beetles appear, treat them immediately as their larvae can devour all the leaves. The most effective method is to catch them manually, but be careful as they drop as soon as they are touched. After flowering, it is a good idea to cut the faded flowers halfway down to keep the bed beautiful during the summer. The bulbs of this lily multiply quickly and should be divided every 3 or 4 years. If you prefer not to divide the clumps after four years, the tightly packed bulbs will produce numerous, shorter stems with fewer flowers per stem. The plant will then resemble a bushy shrub, which is also very attractive. To obtain 2-metre (7 feet) stems with 30 to 40 buds each, you must divide the bulbs.

Tip for planting lilies in compact soil: The scaly bulbs of tall lilies do not tolerate clayey soils that suffocate them and cause rot. In Eastern Europe, the following technique is used to help these bulbs survive the winter. Plant them on 'benches' built above ground level. These benches consist of a first layer of gravel, on top of which densely packed branches are placed. Then cover everything with a layer of compost, 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in) deep. Plant the bulbs in the compost, on which some ground-covering plants can also crawl.

On the terrace, you can create sumptuous pots with lilies. Choose a container that is large and deep enough (at least 16 cm (6in) in diameter for 1 bulb). Fill it with a mixture of leaf compost and sand. Plant the lilies in groups of 3 to 5 bulbs, 10-15 cm (4-6in) apart, then water abundantly. Place the pots in a cool room or outside once the frosts have passed. The ambient temperature should be around 12°C (53.6°F). When shoots appear, move the pot to a veranda or a very bright room with a temperature of around 18°C (64.4°F). Apply liquid fertiliser twice a month until the flower buds appear.
