Text to translate: "A magnificent tulip, both in terms of its color, the size of its head, and the thickness of its stem. I made a beautiful bouquet with short stems. It holds up well in a vase.

Description

The 'Brisbane' Frilled Tulip is not an ordinary flower with its bohemian peony-like appearance dressed in a skirt in the colors of dawn. Not very tall, but standing on a sturdy stem, this beauty sometimes waits until May to bloom. Whether in a flower bed, a pot, or in bouquets, it is an extraordinary variety that will be enhanced by decorative foliage and the small white and blue flowers of forget-me-nots.

The 'Brisbane' Fringed Tulip belongs to the lily family. Originating from horticulture and registered in the Netherlands in 2017, it is classified in the 'Crispa' group, whose main characteristic is the finely fringed tips of the petals. It also has the characteristic of having very double flowers. This tulip will reach a height of 35-40cm (14-16in) when in bloom. The flowering period takes place in April-May, depending on the climate, a little later than other tulips. The flowers are multicoloured, with a mixture of pink and peach and light apricot fringes. They last a long time and allow the tulip season to be extended until May.

In the world of flowers, there is really nothing comparable to fringed tulips to spice up your garden in spring with something unique. Perfect as a border, the 'Brisbane' Tulip will also create beautiful spots in perennial flower beds, accompanied by biennial plants that will fill the space after flowering. You can choose sweet williams or columbines for this purpose. Lady's mantle is also a beautiful companion for tulips with warm colours. By choosing fringed tulips, you will add a unique touch to your bouquets. Only put very little water in their vase, a bottom is enough. Furthermore, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in regular, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained soil. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Brisbane' tulip will grow well in moist to dry soil. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is best to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant. Allow the leaves to completely dry before cutting them. We recommend planting Heuchera, Tiarella, and Euphorbia in the foreground of your flower beds, as their foliage will enhance the colors of your tulips and, during the season, they will elegantly conceal their yellowed leaves.
