Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Apricot Foxx', bicoloured and ever-changing, heralds the return of spring with a flourish. It produces large, beautifully coloured flowers in March-April, with salmon pink petals edged in apricot, taking on a raspberry shade when temperatures are low. Conversely, the warmth enhances its colour palette with a touch of caramel and buttery yellow, warm tones that are welcome in the garden after the winter greyness. Its long stem remains strong in adverse weather conditions and looks stunning in bouquets.

The 'Apricot Foxx' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originally horticultural, introduced in 2010 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, known for its narrow cup-shaped flowers. Perched on the tall stems, 45 cm (18in) above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the elegant flowers are of a good size, fairly square but with a narrow cup shape, displaying six petals (more precisely tepals) in a bicolour pattern, edged in apricot yellow, with the inside showcasing the same range of orange, raspberry pink, yellow, and caramel brown colours. Flowering takes place in March-April, earlier or later depending on the climate, at the beginning of the tulip season.

A wide range of colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, suitable for both borders and bouquets, Triumph tulips are versatile. Unmatched for bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your borders, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers. 'Apricot Foxx' finds its place in large borders, alongside other white or yellow tulips, as well as with blue flowers. Forget-me-nots, wood hyacinths, or grape hyacinths will enhance its warm tones. Tulips are also lovely flowers to cut for arranging.

Planting and care

Plant your Triumph 'Apricot Foxx' tulips as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 10 cm (4in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they don't touch each other. Choose a sunny location for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stems and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly and we recommend planting Heucheras, Tiarellas, Brunneras, Bleeding Hearts, or Cypress Spurge, at the forefront of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and during the seasons, they will elegantly hide their yellowed leaves.
