Description

Erysimum or 'Rysi Moon' shrubby wallflower derived from cuttings, is the only variety capable of offering you this ivory white colour of rare elegance! Ideal for spring decoration on terraces, balconies, and window sills in a timeless style.

Also known as "false wallflower", Erysimum 'Rysi Moon'  forms a compact subshrub covered with narrow and evergreen foliage in a beautiful dark green colour, a little taller than wide, about 30cm (11.8in) in height. Its flowering, typical of wallflowers, is very slightly scented and stands out for its unique colour in this plant family: cream white when opening, its flowers lighten the next day to take on a beautiful ivory shade. Sterile, its numerous floral spikes do not bear seeds and constantly lengthen with new flowers, over a period from March to June. Perfectly hardy, its ancestors grow in the mountains and often on rocky slopes, so 'Rysi Moon' shrubby wallflower loves a well-drained soil, even rocky, and will thrive in rockeries, exposed to full sun. Short-lived perennial, it appreciates a light pruning at the end of June or beginning of July to help it rest and regenerate for the following spring.

Grown as a biennial, the 'Rysi Moon' wallflower is best enjoyed in pots and containers , but also in seasonal flowerbeds, accompanied, for example, by tulip bulbs and forget-me-nots, pansies, primroses, foxgloves, etc... as city gardeners do. Its slightly upright habit will bring height to your compositions, while its pure and neutral colour will allow all associations, regardless of the style of your plantings.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, containers, or directly in flowerbeds.

Planting and care

The 'Rysi Moon' Erysimum mini-plants can be planted in pots and containers or directly in the ground in a finely prepared and enriched soil. Plant them as soon as possible after receiving them, in September-October. If the intended location is not yet ready or the conditions are not favorable for planting (heavy rain or overly dry soil), you can let them grow in pots for 4 to 6 weeks. At planting or shortly after, you must absolutely pinch the tip of the plant between your thumb and index finger to remove the terminal bud and stimulate branching. It is possible to repeat this operation until mid-October to obtain denser bushes.

In pots and containers, use a good, well-draining potting soil for flowering plants (for example, with plenty of bark or perlite) and enriched with slow-release fertilizer. The top of the root ball should be level with the soil. Water generously at planting and during the following weeks, as the mini-plants can dry out quickly. However, be careful with excess water! Make sure to use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water even during winter if it does not rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered location. Do not water during freezing periods.

Starting 3 weeks after planting and until after flowering, apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants 1 to 2 times a week with the watering water, even in winter (as long as watering is necessary). The faded flower spikes can be cut with scissors to maintain a neat appearance, but it is not essential, as the flowering continues on its own as long as the plant does not lack water. Once the flowering is over, the plants in pots can be replanted in the garden in full sun after being pruned back by about 5cm (2in).
