Ever since I planted it, it has struggled to leaf out. I only have a total of 3 leaves, whereas it should be lush after being planted for a while now. I really don't understand why it hasn't grown. I am particularly disappointed with this purchase because, on the occasion of new orders, I planted different young plants which have become truly magnificent.

Description

Heuchera 'Paprika' is a new variety of Heuchera with foliage that changes from flaming orange-red to paprika veined with red in autumn. Its summer flowering is adorned with white bells.

Hardy to -15 °C (5 °F), this rhizomatous perennial grows in a dense, spreading, and dense clump. Its round and lobed leaves are carried by long petioles and distinctly veined: orange-red then paprika veined with red in autumn. Very fine stems, 35 cm (14 in) in height, bear numerous small white flowers in the shape of bells in a very delicate ensemble.

Heuchera 'Paprika' is easy to grow and thrives in any humus-bearing and moist soil, in a partly shady or lightly sunny position. To prevent the roots from lifting, mulch every year. Heuchera was very present in the gardens of our forebears but is making a comeback with new varieties in flamboyant colours!

Heuchera 'Paprika' will be appealing in large beds, combined with grasses or perennials with linear or variegated foliage, but also as a ground cover at the base of trees with ferns.

Tip: Create beautiful autumn pots with carex, cyclamen, and heathers.

Planting and care

Heuchera 'Paprika' can be planted from September to April in a light, rich, moist, and well-drained soil in partial shade or light sun. Reserve a depth of 20 cm (8 in) and spacing of 30 cm (12 in). Mulch the soil in summer, fertilise potted plants, and divide old, bare clumps in spring. During winter, heucheras renew their leaves, so it is best to cut back the previous year's leaves from January to February. Beware of leaf nematodes, vine weevils, and galls.
