Received a plan, for now it still appears to be in hibernation, no sign of vegetation yet. To be continued in a few times.

Description

Astilbes develop paniculate plumes, composed of tiny flowers in shades of pink and lilac. In early summer, the inflorescences dry out to shades of brown and remain attractive throughout the winter.

Plant them in a moist and shady border along with other perennials. They prefer to be in a woodland area or by the water's edge.

Create dried bouquets. In a vase, the fresh flowers are stunning, but they quickly wilt.

Planting and care

To plant, dig your soil well to a depth of 20 cubic cm, and place a base fertiliser at the bottom of the planting hole. Remove your plant from its pot and position, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, backfill and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Astilbes thrive in a marshy area in a sunny or semi-shaded location. They do not tolerate chalky soil that dries out in summer. Spring frosts can damage the flowers and young leaves.
