So sad. This is the first time this has happened with promesse de fleurs, but there’s no sign of my miscanthus! It has disintegrated. It must have died during the winter... it was small, as it had only recently been delivered... Order it in spring so it can build up strength before winter. I was silly.

Graden Merit
A large deciduous grass with green foliage irregularly striped with cream and pale yellow. Its long arching leaves form a column at the base, opening out like a fountain, decorative from summer to the heart of winter. Copper-coloured, then silvery panicles appear after a hot summer. Very hardy, it grows in sun in ordinary soil, even heavy, not too dry but well-drained. Plant in a large border or on a lawn.

Planting and care

Miscanthus sinensis Zebrinus likes a sunny position. It can tolerate short periods of drought. Place it in a fairly rich, moist but well-drained soil. Easy to grow, protect it from excessive winter wet, as it does not tolerate standing water. Water generously after planting. Then water regularly during the first year. Miscanthus is a hungry plant. It needs a regular supply of fertiliser. It produces new leaves in April, sometimes in early May. Be careful of the leaves, which are sharp. It is a disease-resistant plant.
