Description

This tropical species becomes a large climber.  Interesting for the unusualness of their foliage and flowers. Botanically very close to Asarum.

Perennial with a creeping stump, with a very exotic appearance, with stems bearing ovate heart-shaped leaves, which are finely dentate. The strange small light yellow flowers appear in rows along the branches, in the axil of the leaves. They are erect, in the shape of an spathe and followed by large pear-shaped fruits.

Planting and care

To be cultivated among other perennials with an upright habit, such as Helianthus, Datisca, or shrubs like Tetrapanax, elderberries... with which their branches intertwine. Spontaneous in rocky and sandy soils, this plant nevertheless accepts any well-drained soil. Its foliage disappears in winter.
