Looking forward to next year to see them bloom again. The bulbs are too expensive, but it's difficult to find botanic varieties or cultivars close to the native species." Analysis: - The translation is accurate and conveys the intended meaning of the original text. - There are no spelling or grammar errors. - The tone and style of the text are maintained in the translation. - The botanical terms "botany" and "cilium" are not used in the original text, so they are not included in the translation.

Description

This perennial bulbous plant also known as grape hyacinth, is very easy to grow and recognisable by its beautiful intense sky-blue flowers and delicate fragrance.

Muscari azureum is a species with shorter foliage than other muscari. Its flowers are in clusters. Its bells are sky-blue with white stripes. Muscari azureum blooms in spring and emits a soft fragrance. It does not exceed 15 cm (6in) high, so it is smaller than other muscari.

Muscari plants are undemanding in terms of soil type and exposure, but they do not like too mich water. They quickly naturalise to form beautiful flowering carpets.

Muscari azureum pairs beautifully with white or pale yellow Violas (Pansies) or with Myrtle Spurge (Euphorbia myrsinites).

This Muscari also pairs well with white Chionodoxas.

Planting and care

Plant your muscari as soon as possible in well-drained, loose soil at a depth of 8 cm (3in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs 8 cm (3in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. Muscari do very well in containers and ten to twelve bulbs in 15cm (6in) diameter pots, in a mixture of 2/3 compost, 1/3 sand, will produce beautiful potted plants.
