Euonymus fortunei 'Minimus' is best planted from September to November or from February to April, outside periods of frost, intense heat or waterlogged soil. The ground is loosened to a width greater than that of the root ball. In heavy soil, adding grit and well-rotted compost improves drainage and establishment. A density of four to six young plants per square metre will gradually create a continuous carpet. Regular watering is beneficial during the first year, particularly after spring planting. Once established, the spindle requires little care. An annual application of compost is sufficient in poor soils; repeated fertilisation is not necessary.
Pruning is not essential. Overly long stems can be shortened in spring or after the first shoot to maintain a neat border and encourage branching. Those that root outside the intended space can be pulled up easily while they are still young. The plant is generally robust, but euonymus scale and, in pots, vine weevils can occasionally attack it.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.

- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
