Description

Rosa Parfum de Loire 'PINecia' was created and selected in partnership with Loire Valley winemakers by Chastel Nurseries in Doué-en-Anjou. This rose bears large, campanulate, orange-pink flowers that are highly fragrant. The vigorous bush bears dark green foliage that remains attractive throughout the season. It is beautiful in the garden, and its flowers make wonderfully scented bouquets.

Rosa Parfum de Loire is a small, upright-growing bush with vigorous and rapid growth. It will eventually reach a height of about 70 to 80cm (28 to 32in), with a spread of 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in). From May-June until late in the season, large, perfectly shaped roses form. They are solitary and are carried on long, thorny stems. The flowers are composed of multiple petals that start as a slightly orange-pink colour and become pinker as the hours pass. Their strong and noticeable fragrance is more perceptible in warm and calm weather. The disease resistance of this rose is excellent. This deciduous and hardy bush loses its leaves in autumn. It will thrive when planted in rich, deep soil that remains slightly moist in summer to support flower production.

This modern Parfum de Loire rose will look sublime in a large rose bed, at the front of a shrub bed, or planted in groups of 3 as a standalone feature in a well-maintained small garden. Its salmon-pink flowering pairs well with white, as well as mauve and blue tones. Consider planting it with easy-to-grow plants such as perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', G. 'Anne Folkard', G. 'Nimbus', G. 'Orion'), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, perennial salvias, perovskia, and caryopteris. Dwarf buddleias also make lovely companions for bush roses. Its flowers can be used to create warm bouquets that delicately scent the home.

Planting and care

Choose a sunny exposure or partial shade in very hot regions. Work the soil to a depth of 25cm (10in), crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, and cover the top of the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering in plants.
