Asiatic Globeflower, Siberian Globeflower
When it arrived, the plant had 3 buds which flowered. Then it produced 7 more. I’m really pleased because it brightens up the corner of my pond.

Description
Trollius asiaticus, also known as Asiatic Globeflower, is a robust perennial plant, renowned for its hardiness, fast growth, but above all for its generous spring flowering, yellow-orange, reminiscent of a large double buttercup that stands out beautifully against its beautiful fern-like foliage, which is a very bright light green. This Trollius requires a moist to wet, fertile soil, and a sunny or partially shaded position.
Trollius asiaticus belongs to the family of Ranunculaceae, which includes about 25 species native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere (Himalayas, eastern Tibet, and China), where they evolve near watercourses, without ever becoming invasive.
This perennial forms a solid clump of basal foliage from which emerge leafy floral stems, either single or branched, reaching a height of 30 to 80 cm (12 to 32in) and a diameter of 30 cm (12in) depending on the growing conditions. It also serves as an accent plant due to the richness and intensity of its flowering, perfectly highlighted by its spring green foliage. In May-June, its double flowers with very abundant stamens, 3.5 to 4.5 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, are adorned with warm colours (golden yellow, often orange) that contrast with the lightness and brightness of its acid green foliage, deeply incised and palmate.
Trollius asiaticus appreciates fertile and humus-rich soils, even muddy or marshy soils, and a sunny or lightly shaded position. It will therefore find its place in a well-watered garden, in a border, or on a bank near a water feature, in the company of plants that share similar growing conditions: willowherbs, Vernonia, Astilbes, or even Physostegia virginiana.
We recommend that you to plant this perennial with a collection of plants with remarkable foliage and white flowers to create a chic planting scheme. Position Gunnera tinctoria as a backdrop, followed by Rodgersia and Itea virginica Little Henry as well as arums and irises. You can dress the base of these plants with Trollius pumilus in large swathes.

Planting and care
Trollius, like wild buttercups, like to have their feet in the mud and their heads in the sun. That's where they thrive happily, in the marshy soils that separate water from land. However, they will also grow in any good garden soil that is not too dry, in the sun or in partial shade. Pruning the clumps after flowering sometimes encourages the flowers to bloom again later in the season.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
