Description

Primula denticulata 'Cashmeriana' is a perennial native to the forests and meadows of the Himalayas, Tibet, and Nepal. From March to May, a sturdy stem, which can reach a height of over 30 cm (12 in), forms ball-shaped flowers measuring 1 to 2 cm (0.4 to 1 in) in diameter, which are purple with a yellow eye.

This perennial, with its rosette habit, has deciduous leaves that are 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 in) long, elongated, and toothed. These leaves are green with a white underside.

Primula denticulata or Drumstick Primula reaches a height of 40 cm (16 in) at maturity. It is a very hardy plant (down to -20 °C (-4 °F)). It has exuberant growth. This plant, which disappears in autumn, is suitable for rockeries, borders, flower beds, or even semi-natural environments. Additionally, they make excellent cut flowers with great decorative appeal. Be wary of the presence of primine, which can cause allergic reactions.

This primrose pairs well with white drumstick primroses.

Planting and care

Plant Primula denticulata Cashmeriana in a sunny or partially shaded location during spring. Place them in ordinary, deep, fairly rich, moist but well-drained soil. Avoid excessively chalky soils. This is an easy-to-grow plant. Separate the shoots that will appear around the original plant every year or every two years. Pay attention to aphids, red spiders, vine weevils, and slugs, etc., which are harmful to this perennial.
