OUR SOCIAL COMMITMENTS

Within our organisation, we are guided by four values: respect for people, team spirit, commitment and high standards, and integrity. We have worked collectively on these values, and together we have written down the ones that reflect us and which we are keen to promote within the company.

Respect for our employees

We favour long-term employment: despite our highly seasonal business, 75% of our workforce are on permanent contracts. Our absenteeism rate is below 5% and our leaving rate is less than 7%.

We apply a principle of strict parity between men and women with regard to pay, management level personnel, and the formation of the board of directors. The EgaPro index for Promesse de fleurs for 2023 was 94/100. This index exceeded the overall French average of 88/100 and bears witness to our long-standing commitment to professional equality.

We continue to strive for social inclusion. Our recruitment policy is diversified and we have a wide range of profiles, recognised for their skills and their interest in the plant world, whatever their background, age, socio-economic, or ethnic origin.

Employability is an important concept: we develop the versatility of our employees. Each of them masters at least three roles (order preparation, plant inspection, and packaging for the nursery business). We provide training, encourage internal promotion, and often switch our staff around the  various roles. For example, half of our customer service teams started out in operations, and seven out of 10 team managers started out as employees.

In a spirit of sharing, 50% of the company's profits are distributed. In 2021, we paid out an average of €7,700 per employee, in the form of bonuses and profit-sharing. In 2022, we introduced an employee shareholding scheme, enabling those who wish to, to buy shares in the company. As a result, the majority of employees have become shareholders in Promesse de fleurs.

In 2023, we were awarded the HappyIndex®AtWork accolade, which highlights the quality of life at work and of the management practices as experienced by the company's employees.

With a participation rate of over 80% of teams, Promesse de fleurs received a score of 4.18/5 and a recommendation rate of 70.9%. The six certification criteria of the award commit us to continuing our efforts to enhance the well-being and pride of belonging felt by everyone.

Social responsibility

Promesse de fleurs has its roots in its history: we've been in Flanders since 1950, and we're attached to our culture and our land. Near Lille, in Houplines (59116), we grow over 20,000 varieties of plants, trees and shrubs in a 3-hectare nursery and 10,000 m² of greenhouses.

All our activities are grouped together on a single site: offices and customer service, plant maintenance, order preparation and shipping.

Our major project: the Premesques Farm

Today in Houplines, tomorrow in Prémesques, less than a kilometre away: because we're a little cramped on our historic site, we're preparing our expansion into a square farmhouse, a traditional building in the north of France, around which we'll establish our new greenhouses and benefit from new outdoor space to continue maintaining and growing plants under the best possible conditions.

This project is very close to our hearts, as it will not only enable us to expand our operating areas (greenhouses, facilities for preparing orders and shipments) but also strengthen our local roots by hosting a programme designed to encourage the training and establishment of young horticulturists on 32 hectares of farmland.

Stay tuned! We'll tell you more about it in a few months...

‣ We are committed to solidarity and social inclusion

We work with local associations such as the ESAT (Établissement d'Aide par le Travail) in Hallennes-lez-Haubourdin and Wambrechies, whom we entrust certain operations to such as packing seeds, preparing bulbs, and assembling the cardboard pots and hulls for our plastic-free orders.

We also welcome young disabled adults from the IME (Institut Médico-Educatif) in Houplines, who come to work at the nursery individually and/or in groups, accompanied by an educator. In particular, they helped us to pack the seeds we sent to Ukraine for the humanitarian organisation "Seeds for Ukraine".

Our 2022-2026 action levers

1- ZERO WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS

At Promesse de fleurs, most of our teams work in our greenhouses, outdoors, or in our warehouses, whatever the weather. Our jobs are physical and require us to carry a lot of heavy loads.

In 2022, our workplace accident rate represented 0.48% of the number of days worked - a level below the national average - but one that we are working to reduce:

To combat musculoskeletal disorders, we encourage multi-skilling in different positions. We promote prevention on a daily basis through warm-up exercises, demonstrations, posters, and visits from physiotherapists.

To reduce the number of accidents at work, we have worked on each of the main causes identified, in particular: posture when carrying loads, eliminating the causes of falls (cluttered aisles, slippery floors), and fire prevention.

To reduce the arduousness of tasks, we are gradually mechanising operations: construction of 2 loading bays in 2022, refurbishment of traffic corridors, electric traction mechanisation, installation of 500m of conveyor belts.

•  To protect the health of our employees and biodiversity, we do not use any chemical treatments in our greenhouses.

2- TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

In a sector that recruits many seasonal workers, we offer training opportunities.

In 2022, we provided 450 hours of training on 4 priority themes.

Within the next 3 years, we will be offering one training course per year per employee, covering all the company's businesses and positions.
