Planting bulbs becomes child's play with this very innovative tool: its 85 cm handle allows you to plant bulbs without bending down, without effort and muscle aches, its automatic trigger handle allows you to dig holes while standing and the non-slip foot support area helps you to push the head into the soil. Finally, the plastic handle makes using this tool more comfortable.

The automatic handle bulb planter from Spear & Jackson combines quality materials and innovative design. With its elongated trigger handle, and non-slip footrest, this planter almost works by itself and saves the gardener from bending down, it is among the most ergonomic on the market.

Bulbs are often planted in groups or masses to create dense and colourful patches in the garden. They need to be planted at a specific depth, often corresponding to twice the height of the planted bulb or more. This can be a very tedious task because it requires working close to the ground and involves repetitive movements when filling large beds and long borders. The bulb planter is the most suitable tool for planting bulbs quickly and accurately, and it should be chosen carefully according to the size of the bulbs and the requirements of each gardener. The body of the planter (its head) is used to :

  • extract a cylinder of soil to form a hole that will accommodate the bulb
  • place the bulb in this hole, which has a cylindrical shape adapted to bulbs.
  • fill the hole by replacing the extracted soil.

This model developed by Spear & Jackson consists of a steel handle measuring 85cm long with a synthetic material handle, the trigger of which controls the opening and closing of the head located at the other end. The tool's steel head has sharp and serrated edges that penetrate the soil. On this head, at the base of the handle, there is also a metal foothold with a relief anti-slip pattern, which allows you to help push it into the soil.

Directions for use The bulb planter is the most suitable tool for planting bulbs quickly and accurately. Simply push the planter into the soil to the desired depth, using the footrest for support. Then, activate the trigger on the handle and remove the tool head from the soil. The planter will take the soil with it, creating a planting hole in which you can place your bulb, with its base down and its tip facing up. Place the planter above the bulb, release the trigger to let the extracted soil fall onto the bulb and fill the hole. Gently compact the soil using the tip of your foot. Tip: Clean your planter after use and store it in a dry place.
