Spear & Jackson automatic handle bulb planter
Spear & Jackson automatic handle bulb planter
We guarantee the quality of our plants for a full growing cycle, and will replace at our expense any plant that fails to recover under normal climatic and planting conditions.
The automatic handle bulb planter from Spear & Jackson combines quality materials and innovative design. With its elongated trigger handle, and non-slip footrest, this planter almost works by itself and saves the gardener from bending down, it is among the most ergonomic on the market.
Bulbs are often planted in groups or masses to create dense and colourful patches in the garden. They need to be planted at a specific depth, often corresponding to twice the height of the planted bulb or more. This can be a very tedious task because it requires working close to the ground and involves repetitive movements when filling large beds and long borders. The bulb planter is the most suitable tool for planting bulbs quickly and accurately, and it should be chosen carefully according to the size of the bulbs and the requirements of each gardener. The body of the planter (its head) is used to :
- extract a cylinder of soil to form a hole that will accommodate the bulb
- place the bulb in this hole, which has a cylindrical shape adapted to bulbs.
- fill the hole by replacing the extracted soil.
This model developed by Spear & Jackson consists of a steel handle measuring 85cm long with a synthetic material handle, the trigger of which controls the opening and closing of the head located at the other end. The tool's steel head has sharp and serrated edges that penetrate the soil. On this head, at the base of the handle, there is also a metal foothold with a relief anti-slip pattern, which allows you to help push it into the soil.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
