The large-flowered rose ‘Ingrid Bergman’: a beautiful modern red rose

The large-flowered rose ‘Ingrid Bergman’ is a tribute to the eponymous Swedish actress, regarded as one of the greatest in cinema.

It boasts striking solitary double flowers measuring 10 to 12 cm. The dark, glossy foliage serves as a backdrop to their deep, velvety red colour.

The perpetual flowering begins in late spring and continues for several months, until the arrival of the first frosts.

In terms of fragrance, the roses exude powerful, heady floral scents, which contribute to making this variety spectacular.

The perfect shape of its turbinate roses makes it an ideal candidate for bouquets, which will last in a vase for several days without issue.

The compact bushy silhouette of this variety (80 cm in height and 60 cm in spread) makes it suitable for all uses. Whether in a pot or container to green up a terrace or balcony, or in a border with other roses or perennials.

Hardy down to -15°C, robust, fast-growing, and disease-resistant, the ‘Ingrid Bergman’ rose requires little maintenance to thrive. Provide it with a sunny location and avoid letting the soil dry out too much during the summer.

Its qualities and great climate tolerance allow for cultivation in both the north and south of the country.

This rose has received several awards, including a medal from the Royal Horticultural Society and the Gold Medal in Belfast in 1985.

The ground cover rose ‘The Faun’: a true cascade of flowers

The ground cover rose ‘The Faun’ is considered a dwarf or miniature rose. It indeed offers a low silhouette and small dimensions, reaching only 50 to 80 cm in height at ripeness, with a maximum spread of 1.5 metres.

In summer and until the first frosts, it floods the garden with its small double roses of 5 cm gathered in clusters and reminiscent of old roses. Their colour, a gradient of soft pink highlighted by a brighter centre, adds a truly delicate touch to the garden, contrasting beautifully with the dark green foliage. Their fragrance is fruity and light.

Possessing all the qualities of modern roses, it proves to be very hardy and not particularly susceptible to diseases, except in cases of particularly humid weather.

While its dimensions make it a perfect candidate for pot, bowl, or window box cultivation, the rose ‘The Faun’ will be just as splendid in a border or a bed. Paired with white roses, the atmosphere will be romantic, while it will be more dynamic alongside blue flowers.

For successful flowering, favour a sunny location, rich soil that remains slightly moist during summer. Remove faded flowers throughout the season to encourage the appearance of new buds.

The large-flowered rose ‘Princesse Alexandra Renaissance’: a flowering full of elegance

The ‘Princesse Alexandra Renaissance’ large-flowered rose is a Hybrid Tea, belonging to a series that produces fragrant flowers with pure form and sturdy stems. Its large, full roses measuring 8 cm reveal delicately undulating petals in an elegant deep pink hue.

This perpetual variety rewards us with a long flowering period of several months, from June to October.

It reaches 1.3 metres at ripeness and offers a bushy habit.

The ‘Princesse Alexandra Renaissance’ large-flowered rose is therefore perfect for use as cut flowers.

In the garden, it will be grown in sunny exposure within a flower bed, alongside other roses or perennials. Light grasses will beautifully highlight its graceful colour.

The shrub rose ‘Astrid Lindgren’, a vigorous variety full of charm

The ‘Astrid Lindgren’ shrub rose has many advantages: robustness, disease resistance, and abundant flowering. It has indeed been awarded numerous times in several European countries.

Its semi-double flowers measuring 8 cm cluster in corymbs, forming delightful bouquets of a soft pink that becomes paler at ripeness. They reveal a heart of bright yellow stamens and are beautifully complemented by dark green, glossy foliage that is very healthy.

A delicious fragrance of raspberry and wild rose emanates from these roses.

Like many Poulsen roses, this variety is notably perpetual, flowering from summer to autumn, until the first frosts.

Hardy down to -15°C, it can be grown in open ground in most regions of our country. It thrives in sunny or partially shaded positions in the warmer climates of southern France.

When planted alone, it will be perfectly showcased. In larger gardens, it can be integrated into borders or informal hedges.

This rose is equally suited to a rustic decor, alongside perennials, annuals, and grasses, as well as to an English or romantic style.

However, its larger dimensions compared to other mentioned varieties (1.8 meters in height and 1.2 meters in spread) and its rapid growth will not prevent it from also finding a place in a large container, to enhance terraces and balconies.

The large-flowered rose ‘Elaine Paige’: an award-winning variety for its qualities

The large-flowered rose ‘Elaine Paige’ is a hybrid Tea rose with bright pink blooms that have salmon hues at the bud stage, fading to a lighter shade at ripeness. Its double roses with multiple petals can reach up to 12 cm in diameter and abundantly brighten the garden from June to November. Their pronounced fragrance is fresh and floral.

The foliage is dark green, providing a wonderful contrast to the colour of the roses and is highly resistant to diseases.

For its qualities in the garden, this modern variety has been awarded several times internationally. An ideal flower for bouquets, but also easy to grow in the garden: the ‘Elaine Paige’ rose has excellent hardiness, surviving temperatures below -15°C and adapting to all types of climates, whether rainy or warm.

This small, fast-growing bush does not exceed 80 cm in height and 60 cm in spread. It will therefore find its place in a lovely pot, but also in the ground in a border or as a standalone to enhance a well-maintained short grass meadow.
