Our Range of Moist-soil Bushes. Suited to cool, heavy or waterlogged ground, these bushes are ideal for banks, flood-prone areas or poorly drained garden bottoms. The willow (Salix) is their leader. The Flamingo willow ‘Hakuro Nishiki’, with foliage variegated in pink, white and green, is a very decorative small rounded bush, while the Salix purpurea ‘Nana’ lends itself well to creating low hedges.

The white dogwood (Cornus alba) also thrives in moist soil. Its ‘Sibirica’ variety is interesting for its autumn foliage and bright red stems in winter. The common dogwood, Cornus sanguinea, possesses the same qualities. Its 'Midwinter Fire’ selection offers a beautiful gradient of orange and red colours in the off-season. The alder buckthorn (Frangula alnus, formerly Rhamnus frangula), a native bush of wet areas, bears foliage that yellows in autumn and produces small black fruits appreciated by birds. 'Asplenifolia' is decorative for its fern-like foliage. The bog myrtle (Myrica gale), little-known, establishes itself in peaty and acidic soils. It is a small aromatic bush, appreciated for its foliage and decorative aments. Let us also mention the Virginia sweetspire (Itea virginica), endowed with long spikes of fragrant white flowers in summer and pink foliage in autumn. This plant thrives in acidic, humus-rich and moist soils, in partial shade.

All these bushes associate well with perennials for damp banks in the garden. They thrive in cool to moist, even marshy ground, peaty or clayey depending on the variety.
