Description

The Anita Peach Tree is a self-fertile, productive, and vigorous variety. Its large fruits, about 7 to 7.5 cm (3in) in diameter, have a smooth skin of uniform red colour and are round. Its peaches have white, juicy, and highly aromatic flesh. Harvesting takes place at ripeness from mid-July.

The species name "Persica" was given to the peach, which was thought to originate from Persia. In reality, all cultivated forms originate from northern China. Its appearance in Europe occurred in the 6th century and experienced significant development in the 19th century. From then on, numerous selections aimed at improving the fruit's taste qualities occurred. The Anita Peach Tree originates from Italy.

Like many fruit trees, the Anita Peach Tree appreciates light, rich, and deep soils. It does not tolerate excess water or heavy and compact soils well. A sunny location sheltered from the wind will compensate for its sensitivity to spring frosts due to its early blooming. It is a vigorous tree with a spreading habit, characterized by a tall trunk and numerous horizontally growing branches, giving it an elegant spreading silhouette. Its deciduous foliage is bright green and emits a slight almond scent. Its leaves are long, measuring 8 to 15 cm (3 to 6in) by 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) wide, with short petioles.
Its early pink flowering occurs in March. The flowers are hermaphroditic and self-fertile.
Fruit formation results in white, juicy, and aromatic peaches. They are quite large, round, and red. This tree does not require too much maintenance and responds well to pruning.

Peaches can be raw, cooked, sweet, savoury, flambéed, glazed, or deglazed. They pair very well with wine and certain meats, such as duck. They can be found in numerous recipes, including jams, compotes, and pastries...

Planting and care

The Anita Peach should be planted from October to December. Dig a hole two to three weeks before planting, twice as wide and deep as the pot. On the day, place the tree with its pot in a basin of water to moisten the entire root ball by capillary. Install compost at the bottom of the hole. Place the tree in the hole and fill it with soil and compost. Gently compact around the base of the fruit tree as you fill. The roots should be in close contact with the soil. The root ball should be completely covered. Water generously.

The Anita Peach has a semi-pivot root system. It will thrive in fairly deep soils. It also prefers light and well-draining soil.

Care

Pruning instructions In the spring following planting, a first training pruning will be welcome. Keep only the branches that will form the tree's framework (around five). Fruit appears on one-year-old branches. Wood that has borne fruit will not reproduce. For fruiting pruning, prune the branches that have already borne fruit two buds above the future branching. Remove the branches in the centre that crisscross and shorten the longest branches that extend outwards to maintain a harmonious silhouette.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
Pruning time January to February, November to December
Soil moisture Tolerant
Disease resistance Good
Overwinter Can be left in the ground
