This little rose, which is never sick, keeps all its promises: delicate color, very natural round shape, dazzling and uncommon fragrance, continuous flowering, etc. Congratulations to you for marketing it, as it is rare to find for sale. I am eagerly awaiting its availability again at your place.

Description

The 'Amber Abundance' Rose Bush is a bush rose with clustered flowers that is both vigorous, floriferous, and fragrant. It is covered from May to October, in successive waves, with medium-sized double roses, whose delicate colour ranges from creamy apricot to salmon orange, with amber reflections at the centre. The flowers are grouped in dense bouquets on beautiful glossy dark green foliage. This variety combines the majesty of scented old roses with the endless flowering of our modern roses, excelling in flower beds and bouquets.

The 'Amber Abundance' Rose Bush, much less known than 'Amber Queen' with which it should not be confused, is difficult to find in the French horticultural trade. However, it is part, like 'Amber Queen', of the masterpieces created by the English rose breeder Harkness. It forms a compact bush with thorny stems, 90 cm (35in) tall and 60 cm (24in) wide, highly branched, vigorous but flexible, and covered with very healthy foliage, with fairly wide, slightly glossy dark green leaflets. Its flowering is remarkably long, lasting 5 to 6 months, it is in bloom. This bush renews in successive waves throughout the summer, its very double corollas, with 45 petals and measuring 10 cm (4in) in diameter, are gathered in bouquets of 5 to 7 flowers, evoking the shape and fragrance of old roses. The tightly closed buds open into round and slightly open cups, and then produce roses with warm and pastel shades, blending cream, soft orange, and salmon pink, around a tightly packed heart with amber reflections.

Floribunda roses allow for the creation of beautiful small hedges, planted mixed along the edge of the terrace or in small shrub beds. Combine them with abelias, nandinas, or caryopteris, for example. They are good companions for paniculate phlox and tall gypsophila. The modest size and vigour of 'Amber Abundance' make it an interesting variety for cultivation in large pots. And its nostalgically charming scented roses are moving in bouquets.

This rose, dedicated to the largest park in London, both a Royal Park and the green lung of the city, is also known as Hyde Park.

Planting and care

Plant this floribunda rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-loosened and free-draining soil. Roses prefer clayey soils, rather heavy than light. In soil that is too sandy, too compact or too dry in summer, it is preferable to bury compost, decomposed manure or leaf-mould at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dreads waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny position, at most in partial shade. Roses are greedy plants, a specific rose fertiliser application will be beneficial when the foliage emerges, then regularly during the entire flowering period.

To encourage re-blooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, the stems should be pruned to about a quarter of their length (4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud, so that the bush thickens and the branches do not become tangled in the centre of the shrub.
