Description

The Philodendron ‘Pink Marble’ will bring an exotic elegance to your home. Its intensely variegated and pink-marbled leaves add a lot of character to a modern, bohemian, or urban jungle decor. Climbing yet compact, it is relatively easy to grow: place it near a bright window without direct sunlight and add a moss pole to support its growth and showcase its beautiful foliage.

The Philodendron 'Pink Marble' is a climbing plant from the Araceae family. Grown indoors and guided on a moss pole, the plant can reach a height of 1.50 m. The climbing habit only develops over time, with young plants forming a clump. 'Pink Marble', also sold under the name 'Pink Princess Marble', is a hybrid cultivar derived, among others, from Philodendron erubescens. This variety exhibits rapid growth and is characterised by red stems with brown aerial roots. Its heart-shaped, fleshy leaves, measuring up to 20 cm long and 12 cm wide, are randomly variegated, splashed, and marbled with shades of pink to cream against a dark green, sometimes almost black, background. The Philodendron, native to the tropical forests of South America, grows naturally under the dense canopy, where it climbs trees using its aerial roots. Accustomed to a warm and humid atmosphere, it requires indirect light and a well-draining substrate. Its leaves are toxic to animals and humans if ingested due to the presence of calcium oxalate crystals.

The Philodendron ‘Pink Marble’ is an exceptional plant for creating a chic tropical or bohemian atmosphere. Pair it with other plants that thrive under similar conditions, such as the silver-leaved Scindapsus pictus or a variegated Tradescantia.

Location

To grow the Philodendron Pink Marble indoors, it is recommended to place it in a spot with plenty of light, but without direct sunlight which could scorch its foliage. Avoid areas with cold draughts. To encourage its growth, maintain ambient humidity between 40 and 80%. Place it in a bright living room, a well-lit bedroom, or even a lush conservatory. Its marbled foliage catches the eye in a textured ceramic pot. Maintenance and care

Watering tips

Water when the substrate is dry on the surface. Use non-calcareous water. Reduce watering in winter.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot preferably in spring, every 2 to 3 years, or when the roots start to outgrow the pot. Use a slightly larger container.
Mix potting compost for houseplants, perlite and pine bark. Add clay pebbles to the bottom of the pot for drainage.
Apply a liquid fertiliser specially formulated for foliage plants (NPK 10-10-10) every 4 weeks during spring and summer. Suspend feeding in autumn and winter.

Houseplant care

Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and promote photosynthesis. The lower leaves drying out is normal for a climbing plant in growth.
No obligatory pruning, but you can pinch back the stems to encourage new shoots and limit its spreading.

Disease and pest advice

In case of scale insects, clean the leaves with a cloth soaked in soapy water and spray with neem oil. For red spider mites, increase humidity by misting regularly.
