Contents
Kordes roses come from Germany, selected over about a hundred years by rose breeder Wilhem Kordes.
These roses are valued for undeniable qualities in gardens: very disease-resistant, abundant flowering from May until first frosts, hardy and requiring little maintenance.
Added to these assets are cultivation without phytosanitary products and a fine selection of bushes that have received the prestigious ADR label, a guarantee of high quality, rewarding roses that are most vigorous, attractive and floriferous.
Modern roses with charm of old garden roses, climbing roses, must-have bush or shrubby roses, groundcover roses… So many varieties offering choice of colours, shapes and scents to suit every taste.
We have selected 6 remarkable Kordes roses for you.
'Summer of Love' rose with clustered flowers: an incredible colour
‘Summer of Love’ is a modern rose, belonging to the ‘Nektargarten’ collection (Nectar Garden), highlighting varieties whose very melliferous flowers are rich in nectar and pollen.
Its flowers, 6 cm in diameter, are single and gathered in clusters. Bicolour, they display a vivid cherry-red colour lightened by a golden-yellow centre and well set off by glossy dark green foliage.
Perpetual, this variety flowers several times from May or June to October, almost continuously renewing its blooms, to the great pleasure of your eyes and visiting pollinators.
Note, however, that this variety is not scented.
Very resistant to typical rose diseases (downy mildew, powdery mildew, Marsonia…), it is also cold-hardy down to -15°C and requires little maintenance, which earned it the ADR label.
Cultivation and companions for the rose ‘Summer of Love’
With a modest size of 80 cm in height and 50 cm spread, this rose with a bushy habit is ideal both for container growing and for beds in a natural-style garden.
The rose ‘Summer of Love’ pairs perfectly with other small bushes, such as a Mexican orange blossom, whose white flowering will set off that of our rose, a very decorative abelia or a shrubby potentilla.
This rose will also go wonderfully with perennial plants, such as white phlox, airy gypsophilas, nepetas or foxgloves.
For a bed with a fuller effect, don’t hesitate to grow this rose in groups of 2 or 3, which will create a magnificent dense, light-filled bush.
Rose 'Urban Streetlight Medeo': luminous groundcover
The rose ‘Urban Streetlight Medeo’ is a variety belonging to ‘Urban Streetlight’ series, which includes disease-resistant, vigorous, floriferous varieties requiring little maintenance. For these same qualities, it earned German ADR label.
It offers perpetual flowering from June to October, adorned with small single flowers like little stars, with five petals. Their white colour with pinkish reflections is highlighted by beautiful golden yellow stamens.
Flowers are very melliferous but unscented. Each pollinated flower then turns into small orange fruit (hips), equally decorative and bright.
Culture and pairing of rose ‘Urban Streetlight Medeo’
Rose ‘Urban Streetlight Medeo’ adapts to all climates, but prefers soil not too dry in summer. In southern France, grow in partial shade or east-facing exposure, while full sun will ensure good flowering in regions north of Loire.
Its modest silhouette (50 cm height at ripeness with 80 cm spread), but dense, and its low spreading habit make it a superb bright groundcover on a slope, border or at front of flowerbed.
It pairs well with other colourful groundcover roses, which it will set off, or with perennial plants (geraniums, salvias…). It will also beautifully accompany late flowering of garden chrysanthemums.
Its qualities make it highly appreciated in urban landscaping.

Carefree 'Knirps' rose: minimal maintenance, ideal for novice gardeners
Knirps rose is part of the ‘No-fuss’ series, bringing together varieties with particularly simple, minimal maintenance. Easy to care for, these roses require almost no attention and, for creeping varieties such as the ‘Knirps’ rose, pruning in first years is even optional. Perfect rose for novice gardeners.
Its small double flowers with many petals recall shape of old roses. They are borne in clusters and display a magnificent fuchsia-pink, providing striking contrast with glossy green foliage.
Hardy and vigorous, it is perpetual until first frosts. Its qualities and robustness even earned it the ADR label.
Cultivation and companions of ‘Knirps’ No-fuss rose
Its compact size, only 30 cm high by 60 cm wide, makes it a fine ground-cover ideal for small spaces. In pot or large planter, the ‘Knirps’ rose will fit easily on a terrace or balcony.
Its mat-forming habit and ability to grow in partial shade allow it to dress bases of larger bushes, such as the standard roses.
To line a path, it can also be paired with other ground-cover roses or perennial plants.
Large-flowered rose 'Grande Amore': quintessential romantic flower
The rose ‘Grande Amore’ (or ‘My Valentine’) is a popular modern rose, part of hybrid teas.
Its large, double, velvety red flowers of 10 cm, with a turbinate form, are worthy representatives of the perfect bouquet rose, and undoubtedly the source of its poetic name.
Its flowering is almost continuous from June to October and offers a delicate, lightly scented fragrance.
Its foliage is dark red, becoming green with age.
Disease-resistant, it received the renowned ADR label, like many Kordes roses, as well as five other awards for its qualities, both in France and internationally.
Cultivation and pairing of rose ‘Grande Amore’
Rose ‘Grande Amore’ has a bushy habit, 80 cm high with a 40 cm spread. It thrives in a sunny position, in rich, well-drained, slightly calcareous soil.
Grown as a specimen, its flowering will be particularly showcased, as will placement in a large pot.
In the garden, it will slip into borders, accompanied by plants that will leave it all the limelight, such as airy-leaved grasses (stipas, carex…), or small-flowered perennials such as geraniums, nepeta or campanulas.
‘Grande Amore’ is an excellent candidate for bouquets, its long-lasting flowers pairing well with peonies or lilacs.
Rose ‘Nectar Garden Lilliput Lupo’: small pruning, but great aesthetic qualities
The rose ‘Nectar Garden Lilliput Lupo’ is a very small shrub, originating from a series of miniature roses that have all qualities of their larger relatives: hardiness, vigour, disease resistance, long and abundant flowering, and ease of cultivation. It has, of course, like many of its peers, been awarded the ADR label.
It bears small single flowers about 3 cm in diameter with 5 petals, bicoloured, a handsome magenta with a white centre, highlighted by yellow stamens full of light.
Its roses give off a light scent and are much appreciated by pollinating insects; it is part of the ‘Nektargarten’ (Nectar Garden) selection, favouring biodiversity in the garden.
After flowering, it is adorned with small decorative red fruits prized by birds. This fruiting prolongs its ornamental interest, especially at a time when the garden is losing luxuriance.
Cultivation and pairing of the rose
Rose ‘Nectar Garden Lilliput Lupo’ will flower from June to October without interruption, provided regular watering during periods of summer drought.
Its dense, compact bushy habit and small dimensions (50 cm height by 40 cm width) allow it to slip equally well into flower borders or into a pot on a terrace or balcony.
Grow in a sunny position, but protected from the scorching rays of the midday sun.
Several specimens planted together will create a magnificent path border.
In a mixed bed, it pairs well with other dwarf roses or with perennials: geraniums, valerians, avens, alchemillas, veronicas or even a sedum with pretty colourful flowering.
Climbing rose 'Golden Gate': imposing silhouette and uncommon fragrance
The ‘Golden Gate’ rose belongs to the ‘Super Conquérant’ series, grouping roses with a vigorous climbing habit, disease-resistant, floriferous and bearing flowers reminiscent of old roses.
It is a perpetual rose with clustered flowers, whose magnificent double flowers of 8 cm reveal a luminous golden yellow, not harsh. As they age, their colour lightens, producing a lovely graduated yellow effect.
Scented, this Kordes rose variety releases an unexpected fresh lemon fragrance, bringing a genuinely exotic touch. It is also very melliferous.
Its qualities and robustness have earned it, in addition to the ADR label, awards in England, Netherlands and Italy.
Its vigorous, dense foliage is a beautiful green, accompanying abundant flowering from May to October.
Over the years it will develop to about 3.5 metres in height by 1 metre across, forming a very flexible woody climbing stem habit.
Cultivation and companion plants for ‘Golden Gate’ rose
‘Golden Gate’ rose favours a sunny exposure and will flower continuously if its soil remains cool (moist) and does not lack water in summer.
It is ideal for dressing an east-facing wall, or any suitably sturdy structure to support its robust woody climbing stems and cascade of flowers.
This rose is a good companion for clematis, which also require little maintenance.
Its beautiful yellow flowers will pair wonderfully with blue-toned plants, such as phlox or delphiniums. Love-in-a-mist, zinnias or a few plants of borage will also pair effortlessly with ‘Golden Gate’.
