Description

The Nectarine tree Rubis® Necta Zee is a self-fertile variety. A dwarf tree with slow growth, it is perfectly suited for pot cultivation and small gardens. It produces yellow-fleshed nectarines. The fruits are round, yellow washed with red, as large as classic nectarines. Their flesh is yellow, juicy and aromatic. Harvest takes place at ripeness in July. This variety requires little maintenance: light pruning will be sufficient.

The species name "Persica" was given to the peach tree, which was originally thought to be from Persia. In reality, all cultivated forms originate from northern China. The Nectarine tree is a natural mutation of the peach tree that is believed to have occurred in the 16th century. The Nectarine tree Rubis® Necta Zee is an American mutation of the original Asian peach tree, obtained in the USA.

Like many fruit trees, the Nectarine tree Rubis® Necta Zee appreciates light, rich and deep soils. It does not tolerate excessive water or heavy and compact soils. It is a dwarf tree with low vigor, suitable for pot cultivation and small gardens. Its spreading habit indicates a tree with many branches that grow horizontally. Its deciduous foliage is bright green and emits a slight almond scent. Its leaves are long, from 8 to 15 cm (3 to 6in) in length and 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) wide, with a short petiole.
Its magnificent dark pink flowering occurs in late March. This makes it cultivable in northern areas, but still reserve a sunny and sheltered location for it. The flowers are hermaphroditic and self-fertile.
Fruiting results in yellow fruits washed with red, ready to be harvested from July. This tree does not require too much maintenance.

Nectarines can be enjoyed raw, cooked, sweetened, salted, flambéed, frozen or thawed. They pair well with wine and certain meats, such as duck. They can be found in numerous recipes, particularly for jams, compotes, pastries.

Planting and care

The Col neck water plant Rubis® Necta Zee is preferably planted from September to November. Dig a hole two to three weeks before planting, twice as wide and deep as the pot. On the day, place the tree with its pot in a basin of water, in order to moisten the entire root ball by capillarity. Install compost at the bottom of the hole. Place the tree in the hole, fill with a mixture of soil and compost. Gently tamp around the base of the fruit tree as you fill, the roots should be in close contact with the soil. The root ball should be completely covered. Water abundantly.

The Col neck water plant Rubis® Necta Zee has a semi-pivot root system. It will thrive in fairly deep soils. It also prefers a light and well-draining soil.

Care

Pruning instructions In the following spring after planting, a first pruning for shaping will be welcome. Keep only the branches that will form the tree's framework (about 5 branches). Fruits appear on one-year-old branches. The wood that has borne fruit will not reproduce. For fruiting pruning, prune the branches that have already borne fruit to 2 buds above the future branching. Remove the intermingling branches in the center and shorten the longer ones that extend outwards in order to maintain a harmonious silhouette.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
Pruning time January to February, December
Soil moisture Tolerant
Disease resistance Good
Overwinter Can be left in the ground
