Our range of fruit vegetables. In the vegetable garden, these vegetables bring colour, abundance and summer flavours. They include the summer essentials, to be sown under cover or planted after the last frosts. Tomatoes are among the most widely grown. 'Cœur de Bœuf’ or ‘Noire de Crimée’ are highly sought after. Cherry and cocktail tomatoes, perfect for snacking or in salads, can also be grown on a balcony. Chillies and peppers, such as the ‘California Wonder’ sweet pepper or the Espelette chilli, offer a wide range of shapes, colours and flavours. They are harvested green or at full ripeness, when well-coloured. Squashes, which are very diverse, are divided into courgettes, patty pan squashes and pumpkins. Cucumbers and gherkins are harvested young to avoid bitterness. Aubergines require warmth and regular watering.
These fruit vegetables appreciate rich, well-drained soils and warm, sunny positions. Mulch and water without wetting the foliage to limit diseases. Staking is sometimes essential, depending on the variety.
