Description

The Marcel Pagnol® 'Meisoyris' rose celebrates elegance and abundance with its large, velvety redcurrant-red roses enhanced by a powerful fragrance with hints of raspberry, rose, and spices. As a continuous bloomer, it offers ongoing flowering from early summer til autumn, bringing vibrant colours to the garden. Its balanced, bushy habit and dark green, disease-resistant foliage make it an ideal choice for structuring borders, beds, and fragrant cut flowers. Combining robustness and refinement, it perfectly evokes the warmth and charm of southern regions.

A tribute to one of Provence’s greatest writers, the Marcel Pagnol® 'Meisoyris' rose embodies the warmth and abundance of southern regions with its large, redcurrant-red roses and intense, spicy fragrance. A refined creation by Meilland, it belongs to the Rosaceae family and the Hybrid Tea group. Hybrid Tea roses produce elegant, turbinate-shaped flowers with petals arranged in a spiral that gradually unfurl. Their often large and refined roses are borne on long stems, making them ideal for cut flowers. It is also known as the Red Cross Rose, Graf Lennart Rose, Velveteen Rose, and Matilda Rose. The 'Meisoyris' reaches approximately 1 metre in height and 50 cm in spread. Its dark green, dense, disease-resistant foliage highlights the intensity of its flowers, whose velvety texture and slightly dentate edges add a touch of sophistication to the garden. Reaching up to 12 cm in diameter, its double roses, feature around 35 petals and exude a powerful fragrance, blending hints of raspberry, rose, and pepper, reminiscent of Mediterranean scents. Thanks to its continuous flowering, it provides a colourful display from early summer to autumn. Perfectly suited for creating fragrant cut flowers, this bush rose is a key asset for structuring spaces and adding a Provençal touch to the garden.

The 'Meisoyris' rose adds a warm and refined touch to borders and beds. It blends harmoniously with combinations where colour and texture contrasts highlight its velvety brilliance. Paired with a Pierre Arditi® rose, with its pristine white flowers, it will create an elegant duo that accentuates the depth of its intense red. To structure the arrangement and add volume, a Perovskia 'Blue Spire' with its lavender-blue spikes and silvery foliage will soften the display and extends summer flowering. At its base, a Stachys byzantina, with its silvery-grey, velvety foliage will highlights the beauty of its roses while adding a subtle, contrasting texture. Perfect for structuring a border or creating a fragrant flowering hedge, this rose embodies elegance and robustness, enhancing sunny garden spaces.

Planting and care

To plant your Marcel Pagnol rose, prepare the soil by digging a 25 cm cube, breaking up the earth well and adding a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Place your plant after removing it from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, backfill and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root establishment. Also consider feeding your rose with a special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering. Choose a sunny spot, or partial shade in very hot regions.
