Description
The 'Bee Proud' Rose is a cheerful little floribunda, notable for its repeat flowering and nectar-rich blooms which feed bees and bumblebees. Its small semi-double corollas, in a palette of salmon, pink, orange and yellow, bring colour and life to the garden all summer long and until the first frosts. The compact and robust young plant is equally suitable for borders or container cultivation.
Belonging to the Rosaceae family, the 'Bee Proud' rose is a Belgian horticultural cultivar from ILVO/Best Select. It is part of a selection of roses that are favourable to biodiversity, favouring open, nectar-rich flowers. This variety has been distinguished in international trials: Kortrijk in 2018 (Golden Rose), The Hague in 2020 (Gold Certificate), with a special prize from the Deutsche Rosengesellschaft in Baden-Baden in 2022.
It is a small shrub with a dense, bushy habit and moderate growth. In open ground, it reaches 60–70 cm with a spread of 50–60 cm. The semi-double (9 to 16 toothed petals) flowers are gathered in clusters; the red-tinged flower buds open into salmon to orange-pink blooms with a yellow centre; they fade to light pink over time. The diameter of the corollas is about 5 cm. The flowering repeats from June to October, accompanied by a light fragrance. The deciduous, bright green foliage covers upright stems; the plant showed good disease resistance during variety trials.
Place the 'Bee Proud' rose in the sun, in well-drained soil, then complete your country garden scene with perennials like Eryngium planum ‘Blue Hobbit’, Origanum laevigatum ‘Herrenhausen’ and Knautia macedonica. Pair your rose with varieties like the very pale pink Astronomia, lavender Blue Eyes with a purple eye, and See You® in Rosé, a small repeat-flowering bush in soft pink.

Planting and care
Bee Proud roses prefer a sunny position (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong wind. They appreciate loose, permeable, deep and fertile soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden provided the ground is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work your soil to a depth of 25 cm, breaking up the earth well and placing a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, backfill and water copiously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, give your rose special rose fertiliser, which stimulates flowering.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
