Description

A genus including some formidable annual weeds, but also amazing perennial plants, which can be invasive or difficult to cultivate depending on the species or the nature of the soil they grow in. All of them are highly floriferous and bring added value to gardens.

Stunning non-invasive species forming a loose and bushy clump of slender stems bearing small narrow leaves. The large mauve-pink flowers are grouped together in short clusters.

Planting and care

Lovely plant for a scree garden, a flowered wall, a sunny slope, or a gravel garden. Undemanding on the type of soil, it is stockiest and most beautiful in poor, rocky or sandy places, very well-drained, even very chalky. In rich soil, its stems tend to stretch and the lanky habit makes the silhouette less attractive.
