Very slender and very dry stems at the base, do not at all resemble the beautiful photos on the website where 'very fresh' plants are presented. Planted, but? On to the next part. They must have remained very tightly packed in the young plant nurseries.

Description

Dianthus 'Pike's Pink' is a small perennial ground cover with pale-pink flowers mixed with raspberry, overhanging compact, bluish-green foliage.

This perennial pink, measuring 20cm (8in) in height, forms large carpet-like mats, with rigid and compact bluish-green foliage. The highly fragrant semi-double flowers, 3cm (1in) in diameter, are pale-pink mixed with raspberry. They appear at the ends of the stems from May to July. It bears two or three flowers per stem, with each petal being dentate.

Dianthus 'Pike's Pink' thrives in well-drained, rocky soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Remove faded flowers regularly to promote new flowering. Apply fertiliser in spring. Be cautious of soils that retain moisture in winter.

It is well-suited for use in pots, rockeries, and borders, alongside nigellas.

Planting and care

Plant from October to March in well-draining, dry, poor, and rocky soil in full sun. In heavy soil or in a region that is too damp, mix compost, sand, and gravel with your garden soil and plant on a mound to facilitate drainage. Don't forget to place gravel at the bottom of the hole for good drainage. Remove faded flowers to promote new flowering. Apply fertiliser in spring. Beware of slugs and soil that retains winter moisture.
