Description

In the wild, this species grows on the edges of pine woods or in poor meadows. The upright, stiff, sparsely branched stems bear whorled, tiered foliage that is highly characteristic of the species.

The large flowers appear solitary at the end of the stems. They are large, bright light yellow with dark brown centres, and appear one after the other over a long period. A little stiff-looking, this luminous species is best planted in small colonies of at least 5 to 7 feet to form a remarkable shrub in the background of a bed.
