'La Bonne Amie' belongs to the Campanulaceae family. It is a selection of Campanula persicifolia, the peach-leaved bellflower. It is a herbaceous perennial that forms an upright clump 60 to 80 cm tall in flower and 30 to 40 cm wide. Its stems bear dark green foliage formed of narrow basal leaves reminiscent of those of a peach tree and small lanceolate leaves along the flower stalks. From June to August, these flower stalks bear clusters of large, double bell-shaped, 3 to 5 cm diameter, widely open, pure white flowers. All the above-ground vegetation is deciduous, disappearing in winter to re-emerge from the ground the following spring. This variety shows very good hardiness (–20 to –23 °C). Like most perennial bellflowers, it proves to be long-lasting and reliable in ordinary soil that is neither too dry nor too compact.
Campanula persicifolia La Bonne Amie can be planted in perennial borders or large flower borders. It can be planted in small groups of three to five plants in rustic settings or to accompany bush roses. It naturally associates with other peach-leaved bellflowers such as 'La Belle Blue', double lavender-blue, or 'La Bello', with white flowers that are also double. You could pair it with the compact Nepeta subsessilis 'Laufen', with lilac-blue spikes, Gaura 'Crimson Butterfly' or the straw-yellow coneflower 'Sunrise'. Together they create a small, easy-care summer scene, suited to natural, romantic or cottage gardens.
