Description

Perennial plants, valued in gardens, columbines require a light, humus-rich soil, not lacking in moisture, where they colonise the ground with their spontaneous self seeding. They can tolerate heavy soils, but do not live there for very long. Some alpine species are difficult to cultivate.

Planting and care

Plantez l'ancolie Goldfinch de préférence en février-mars ou en septembre-octobre, hors période de gel ou de forte chaleur. Elle apprécie le soleil doux et la mi-ombre, surtout dans les régions chaudes, où une ombre légère l’après-midi lui est profitable. Offrez-lui une terre humifère, fertile, souple et bien drainée, qui reste fraîche au printemps sans devenir lourde ni détrempée en hiver. Un apport de compost mûr à la plantation suffit généralement. Installez la motte sans enterrer le collet, arrosez soigneusement, puis maintenez le sol légèrement humide le temps de la reprise. Par la suite, l’entretien est simple : arrosez en cas de printemps sec, paillez si le sol sèche vite, et supprimez les fleurs fanées pour limiter les semis spontanés ou prolonger l’aspect soigné de la touffe. En fin de floraison, coupez les tiges défleuries ; un nouveau feuillage propre réapparaît souvent. Évitez de déplacer les vieux pieds, car les ancolies supportent mal que l'on perturbe leurs racines.
