If you’re looking for an elegant, vibrant Mediterranean shrub, red-flowered oleander bushes have plenty to offer. Often available in white or pink, sometimes in yellow, the red colour is rarer for this shrub and makes it more distinctive. The Oleander offers a flowering from June to September against a backdrop of green, leathery, elongated and pointed leaves. Its evergreen foliage proves decorative all year round. Easy to grow and maintain, it requires a sunny spot, well-drained soil and regular watering during flowering. Tolerant of drought and sea spray, it can be grown in the ground in regions with mild winters, as it does not tolerate frosts below -8°C to -10°C. Cultivated in a pot, it can be brought indoors to protect it from the cold in winter. It requires little maintenance, a light pruning in spring or after flowering being sufficient. Discover our selection of red-flowered oleanders that will enchant your garden or balcony.

Oleander 'Red Single' - Nerium oleander

Oleander – Nerium oleander ‘Red Simple’ is a Mediterranean bush with showy flowering. When it flowers from June to October, its foliage is clothed with a profusion of single flowers in a deep red that catches the eye. The flowers of 4 cm in diameter are slightly fragrant and open among a mantle of dark green, elongated, leathery leaves, ash-coloured on the reverse. Its ramified-from-the-base, bushy habit reaches a height of 3.5 metres and a width of 3 metres. Easy to grow, it is best suited to outdoor planting in mild-climate regions, as it does not tolerate frosts below -8 to -10°C. It prefers full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. It is fairly drought-tolerant and resistant to coastal salt spray. During its summer flowering, it appreciates regular watering.

Plant this oleander with showy flowers as a specimen in a garden, in a sunny spot, to really show it off. You can also pair it with other oleanders of the same variety to form an elegant hedge. It also adds a subtle and appealing Mediterranean touch to a garden or a terrace grown in a large container.

Oleander 'Double Red' - Nerium oleander

The Oleander – Nerium oleander ‘Double Red’ is the star bush par excellence. It offers a generous flowering of double flowers in a bright magenta red, from June to October, if it is watered sufficiently. The flowers measure 4 cm in diameter and give off a light fragrance. The branched, bushy shrub forms a slightly rounded silhouette 3 metres tall by 2.5 metres wide. Its evergreen foliage, lighter on the reverse, remains decorative all year round. Easy to grow and maintain, this oleander grows in well-drained soil, in sun or in partial shade. This Mediterranean shrub prefers the ground in a region with mild winters, as it shows low hardiness. In colder regions, plant it in a large container and bring it indoors during frosts or protect it from the cold.

This oleander is delightful as a specimen in a garden or when paired with other white-flowered oleanders, such as the Oleander – Nerium oleander White, which will highlight its beautiful colours.

Oleander 'Italia' - Nerium oleander

Oleander ‘Italia’ – Nerium oleander offers a bright pink-red flowering in summer. It bears flowers ranging from intense, vivid pink to light red from June to October. The single flowers are lightly scented. The dark green foliage with a greyish underside is evergreen. The shrub forms a branched tuft from the base and is somewhat rounded. It grows to 3.5 metres tall with a 3-metre spread. Like other oleanders, it is drought- and salt-spray tolerant. It can be planted in full sun or light shade, in well-drained soil, and likes regular watering during its flowering to perform at its best. It is best grown in the open ground in mild-climate regions, but can be grown in a large pot or container on a balcony in other regions. You can bring it indoors to shelter from frost in winter, as it cannot tolerate temperatures below -8 to -10 °C.

Take advantage of this handsome shrub to create a Mediterranean atmosphere in your garden or on your terrace. Pair it with other Mediterranean plants such as olive tree or citrus trees.

Oleander 'Jannoch' - Nerium oleander

Reaching a height of 3.5 metres with a 3-metre spread at maturity, the Oleander ‘Jannoch’ – Nerium oleander is a vigorous Mediterranean evergreen shrub with a beautiful raspberry-red summer flowering. It blooms from June to October, provided it is given ample water during flowering. With its evergreen foliage comprising dark green leaves with paler undersides, it remains decorative all year round. It prefers mild-climate regions, as it is not very hardy. In regions with cold winters, it can be grown in a large pot or large container to be easily protected from the cold or brought indoors under cover in a conservatory during frosts. It enjoys well-drained, cool soil in summer, and a sunny position.

In a garden, you can plant it as a standalone specimen, at the back of a flowering border, or in hedges alongside other shrubs such as Elaeagnus ebbingei or Mexican orange blossom. On a terrace, enjoy its beautiful flowering by growing it in a large pot.

Oleander 'Commandant Barthélemy' - Nerium oleander

Oleander ‘Commandant Barthélemy’ – Nerium oleander offers delicately double flowers in a pale red, sometimes striated with white. It blooms from June to September on dark green evergreen foliage, the underside lighter. The flowers are fragrant and attract pollinating insects. Low-maintenance and easy to care for, it flowers all summer if given sufficient water during this period. Its bushy, ramified silhouette reaches 3.5 metres tall and 3 metres wide at maturity. Like other oleanders, it grows in well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade, preferably in a region with a mild climate due to its low hardiness. It can, however, be grown in a large pot to be kept frost-free if required.

In a garden, enjoy its fragrance and its pretty red flowers by planting it in a hedge or as a standalone specimen. You can also pair it, for example, with myrtles or Grevillea, whose colours will harmonise nicely.
