The rose 'Madame Alfred Carrière', an exceptional rose
It is no coincidence that the rose ‘Madame Alfred Carrière’ is named after the editor-in-chief of the famous Horticultural Review. Repeat flowering, floriferous, and vigorous, it produces a multitude of large double flowers in cream-white, with hints of pink and a rosy heart. It grows up to 3.5 metres tall and covers a wall or arch with its flexible, lightly thorny stems and dark green, glossy foliage. The stems are initially red before turning green. Beginning with the appearance of pointed pink buds and continuing with roses featuring numerous crumpled petals, the flowering lasts from May-June until the first frosts. The roses have a diameter of 10 cm and are grouped in corymbs of 5 to 7 flowers. Fragrant, they exude fruity scents. This hybrid of Noisette rose is a French creation dating back to 1879. The rose ‘Madame Alfred Carrière’ adapts well to poor soils and shaded exposures, as well as to cold. It has received numerous awards and belongs to the “Old Rose Hall of Fame”, a selection of 10 historic old roses made by the World Federation of Rose Societies.
