Spear and Jackson British spade with traditional handle

Be the first to leave a review
A British spade with a traditional handle equipped with a hardwood shaft and a stainless steel blade with a footrest for added comfort. It is a very beautiful hand tool designed for digging, working, and turning any type of soil in small areas. Its YD handle, specific to British tools, allows for excellent grip.

This Spear and Jackson traditional British spade has footrests, a very hard, ergonomic, ash handle and a stainless steel spade blade. It is a very robust and high-quality garden tool that will satisfy demanding gardeners and lovers of fine tools. It is perfect for working and turning all types of soil, preparing planting holes and creating neat borders, as well as for various small earthworks.

The spade is an essential tool, designed for lifting, turning, and loosening and crumbling the soil deeply, on small surfaces. Fertiliser (well-decomposed compost, organic fertiliser, horse manure...) can be incorporated into the soil at the same time as it is turned. The spade, with its sharp edges, can also be used for digging, cutting roots, or digging up some vegetable plants (leeks, potatoes, carrots, turnips). This model consists of an ash handle split in a "Y" shape towards the top under the handle, all in one piece to limit the risk of breakage, very hard, lightweight, and resistant to bad weather. The metal socket accommodates the sharpened, stainless steel blade which is resistant to shocks, torsion, and corrosion. This polished blade offers less resistance to penetration into the soil. On the right and left of the handle, the spade blade has been hammered and crushed into a footrest, then grooved, offering a non-sharp and non-slip foot support. The handle, ending with a typical YD handle of English tools, multiplies the force: it allows you to exert your full weight to drive the spade into the ground. The handle of this tool is compostable, and the steel head is recyclable.
