In garden, some plants are more delicate than others, such as sowing or young shoots, and even some houseplants, which need very gentle watering. To water them, using big 10-litre garden watering can is out of the question, because they need a finer rain so young stems and leaves do not bend. And for that, there is a simple, economical and ecological : turn a simple plastic bottle into a fine-rain watering can. Follow these easy steps to make your own zero-waste watering can and pamper your little shoots.

Materials required
- Plastic bottle (0.5L, 1L or 1.5L according to preference) ;
- A nail ;
- A hammer ;
- Adhesive tape ;
- Facultative: a marker.
Steps to make
1. Preparing the bottle
Start by thoroughly cleaning the plastic bottle. Remove label and rinse it carefully to remove any drink or product residue. Leave to dry completely.
2. Facultative: Mark the holes
If you want small evenly spaced holes, you can use a marker to draw a circle of small dots on the bottle cap. These dots will be the future holes through which water will flow.
3. Making the holes
Unscrew the cap from the bottle and if the cap is attached to the bottle, cut the ties. Place it on a board or workbench or any other surface that will not be damaged by the nail.
For added safety, secure the cap to the surface with adhesive tape during this step.
Using your hammer, pierce the bottle cap with the nail, at regular intervals.
Alternative: you can also heat the tip of the nail with a lighter or a candle to pierce the cap. Take care not to burn yourself, as heat spreads quickly through metal. Work in a well-ventilated area.

4. Finishing the watering can
Fill the bottle with water (preferably rainwater), then screw the pierced cap back on. Check that all holes are properly made and allow a good flow of water. Re-drill if necessary. Your zero-waste watering can is now ready for use.
5. Use
To water your plants, simply press the bottle gently so that water flows slowly through the holes. This watering can is ideal for watering sowing and young delicate plants that require gentle watering.
